Do You Wear 'The Failure Uniform'?

DISCLAIMER: This article will be cheesy at some points, but I still approve of the message.

Starting a journey to go from your current point of fitness to a desired point of fitness can be a more arduous path than many give it credit for. You are imagining a new future and trying to become a better person - you deserve respect for this, the beginning is daunting after all.

Alas, we humans can sometimes be in love with defeat. We often end before we begin, but it doesn't have to be this way. Why do we fail in our fitness transformations? Why can't we just snap our fingers and become better versions of ourselves? I mean we all want to be, right?

The truth is that our current self and our desired self are at odds with one another, and so they conflict. If you were already your desired self, you would have what you want and you would have no problems. Our current self pulls us backwards, towards the known, the comfortable, the easy. The desired self pulls us forward, into the unknown, the uncharted, the tough path. In my experience, the key is to learn how to drop the stories you hold of the past. This is difficult because everyone around us tends toward the easy path, inadvertently confirming our stories. The easy path is what we naturally devolve into following. Dropping these stories is what I call shedding 'The Failure Uniform'.

What is 'The Failure Uniform'? Simply, it is wearing the self-limiting stories you tell yourself about why you can't achieve your goals. 'I'm just not skinny,' or 'I just don't enjoy exercise,' or 'I got dealt a bad hand in life,' are all really figments of your imagination. In the back of our minds we often sense a dark force grabbing onto our backs and pulling us back from where we desire to go - that force is you. Where you are physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially, is all your doing. No one screwed you out of anything, no one held you back vindictively or otherwise, and there is no cosmic reason why you cannot be whoever you desire to be, the only limiting factor is your mindset and beliefs.

(Cheese incoming)

Regardless of what you hold to be true about your current situation today is the beginning of the rest of your life, so why not add years to your life and life to your years by transforming your health? I mean, you can do it in an extremely enjoyable way. There is no feeling quite like seeing the number on the scale drop and fat melting off while you feel as though you're not even trying. This is your one life after all, why not extend it and amplify it? We live too short and die too long.

Confucius once said "Every man has two lives, and the second begins when he realises he has just one." Damn, Confucius had bars. What a message.

Do yourself a favour and drop the failure uniform, because this is the beginning of the rest of your life.
